The Lonely Human

What is happening to us? Everybody seems to be pretending to be strong and not speaking about the everyday suffering that a person goes through in navigating the mundane life. What is happening to communities and a sense of relief that communities bring to individuals. Our society is becoming more and more fractured and disengaged. Sure we have social media where people are shouting on top of their lungs and want to feel connected, but are we connected at all. The only forms of community that is available right now are the social media ones which instead of making people feel connected all the more make them more disengaged. Where is the sense of bonding and trust amongst individuals in a community. I can guarantee that every individual going through the mundane experience of life feels lonely and want to be heard. But nobody is saying anything? I can also guarantee that every person when probed about their issues feels a relief when they say things to a person whom they trust. People hide behind the veil of being strong but deep down they want to heard, feel a sense of bond and want to feel cathartic relief by unloading and discussing their lonely existence.

Does Religion Help? Does Absurdism has limits

As societies get more and more fractured, religion has a big place in the general human need to find hope and try to make sense of absurd incidents that one encounters in life. The existential philosophy of absurdism is a tough nut to crack, where you cannot make sense of certain incidents that come up in your event, and having no faith in religion or god makes existence all the more difficult.

A recent trend of people moving towards conservatism and religion reeks of an identity crisis in societies whose material position have improved.

The Contradictory Human Nature

Humans in their evolutionary period have always existed in groups and communities for their survival. But most of market economics is based on the premise of human self interest. As pointed out by the Father of Economics Adam Smith

“It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker, that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest”- Adam Smith

So both these contradictions play out very weirdly. Self interest and building communities happen side by side. The later has stopped happening in recent times.

So what's the Solution?

Here are a few appropriate quotes for a solution

“Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don’t need, and the things you own, end up owning you. We’re the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our great war is a spiritual war. Our great depression is our lives. We’ve all been raised on television to believe that one day we’d all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars, but we won’t. We’re slowly learning that fact.”-Fight Club

Lets start a revolution!!!!
